About Portugal and the Region

Portugal is Britain's oldest ally, with treaties between the two countries going back to the fourteenth century. The people of Portugal are friendly and easygoing, with the emphasis very much on family life.

Between Gomeira beach and Monte Gordo there are miles of unspoilt coastline dotted with small fishing villages, each containing excellent restaurants.

A few miles to the east is the unspoilt village of Cacela Velha with a church and a small fortress set on a cliff top.

Some 5 Kms to the west is the town of Tavira, generally regarded as the most beautiful in the Algarve. The town is neatly divided by the river Gilao, spanned by a bridge of Roman origin, and offers an extensive range of shops, markets and restaurants.
